Contribution towards early years educational and childcare services

The scheme is aimed at households with children aged between 3 months and up to August of the year in which they turn 3. 

In particular, the benefit is payable for the first two children of the same mother, whether biological or adoptive, provided that they belong to the household of the applicant mother and/or another applicant (father, guardian or foster parent) and that they are registered, in the province of Trento:

1) in educational services (nurseries, workplace nurseries, family-run nurseries – Tagesmutter service) as listed on the following Vivoscuola page. The lists are as follows:

-NURSERIES BY VALLEY COMMUNITY FOR THE 2025/2026 SCHOOL YEAR as at 1 September 2025

-FAMILY-RUN NURSERIES – TAGESMUTTERS REGISTERED ON THE PROVINCIAL REGISTER (Art. 8 of Provincial Law 4/2002) BY VALLEY COMMUNITY FOR THE 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR as at 1 September 2026

and/or

2) accredited childcare services for FSE+ service vouchers, limited to services offered under category A) Services for children aged 3 months to 3 years, excluding point A1) Childminding services (babysitters), as set out at the following link. 

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this benefit, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

1. registered residence and residence status as provided for in Article 8-bis, paragraph 4, of Provincial Law No. 1 of 2 March 2011, and the relevant implementing regulations approved by Provincial Decree No. 18-31/Leg. of 14 December 2020;
2. a family economic status indicator (ICEF Famiglia), not exceeding 0.70 (calculated in accordance with the provisions approved by the Provincial Executive by Resolution No. 1256 of 29 August 2025, as amended), based on income and assets from the two years preceding the submission of the application;
3. the application must have been submitted and the “nursery grant” subsequently received from the INPS.

The provincial allowance covers only the costs relating to the basic attendance fee for the service, excluding any additional costs paid by families. Ancillary costs beyond the basic service are excluded, such as, by way of example only and not limited to, additional meals, nappies and wipes or various changes of clothing, transport and any other additional service.

Specifically, the detailed regulations set out the scale of the financial contribution, calculated net of the value of the FSE+ service vouchers and the ‘nursery allowance’ paid by the National Social Security Institute (INPS) pursuant to Article 1, paragraph 355, of Law No. 232 of 11 December 2016, as subsequently amended and supplemented, or any other public contribution received for the same purposes, as set out below:

1. for households with a Family ICEF indicator of 0.40 or less, the grant is awarded at 100 per cent of the remaining amount and, in any event, for an amount not exceeding €2,500.00 per calendar year;
2. for households with a Family ICEF indicator greater than 0.40 and up to and including 0.70, the grant is awarded at 50 per cent of the remaining amount and, in any case, for an amount not exceeding €2,500.00 per calendar year.

The application is submitted directly by the applicant via a dedicated online platform on the website of the Autonomous Province of Trento or through affiliated welfare organisations during the period from April to August of the calendar year following that in which the expenditure was incurred.

It is essential that the invoice or tax receipt for the childcare service is made out in the name of the same person applying for the provincial benefit.

Upon the first application of these criteria, expenses incurred from 1 September 2026 onwards will be eligible for the grant, and the first round of applications will commence in April 2027.

For subsequent years, in line with the regulations governing the ‘nursery allowance’ paid by the National Social Security Institute (INPS) pursuant to Article 1, paragraph 355, of Law No. 232 of 11 December 2016, applications will be submitted during the April–August period of each year, covering expenditure incurred during the calendar months of the previous calendar year (January–December of each year).

As mentioned above, the application must be submitted by the applicant via a dedicated online platform, available in this section, or through the relevant support organisations during the period from April to September of the calendar year following that in which the expenditure was incurred.

Initially, expenses incurred for educational and/or work-life balance support services from 1 September 2026 onwards will be eligible for funding, and the first round of applications will open in April 2027.

Please note that the management and disbursement of the grant will be handled bythe Agency for Assistance and Supplementary Social Security of the Autonomous Province of Trento (Apapi).
