Description
Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2465/2023 of 17 August 2023 supplements Regulation (EU) No. 1308/2013 by laying down the marketing standards applicable to eggs and repealing the previous Regulation (EC) No. 589/2008.
Among the main provisions, it defines the criteria for grading Class A eggs by weight:
XL - very large: weight of 73 g or more.
L - large: weight equal to or greater than 63 g and less than 73 g.
M - medium: weight of 53 g or more and less than 63 g.
S - small: weight less than 53 g.
CommissionImplementing Regulation (EU) 2023/2466 of 17 August 2023 lays down detailed rules on the marketing standards applicable to eggs.
The main provisions concern:
Packing Centres: Only authorised packing centres may carry out the grading, packing, repacking and labelling of eggs.
Record Keeping: Requires producers, egg collectors and packing centres to keep specific additional records to allow checks on compliance.
Compliance Checks: Defines the parameters for the checks that Member States must carry out to ensure that eggs meet the marketing standards.
Both regulations were published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 8 November 2023 and entered into force on the 20th day after publication.
