In the heart of the Dolomites, cycle route no. 5 represents one of the most suggestive routes for mountain enthusiasts. Starting from Molina di Fiemme, the route crosses the two valleys of Fiemme and Fassa amidst meadows and woods, travelling along the alternating stretches of the Avisio river.
From Castello di Fiemme it is possible to take the first branch off, connecting with the province of Bolzano, going up to the San Lugano pass, through the Val di Aguai along a route with rather steep gradients. From the pass it is then possible to continue along the former route of the Ora-Predazzo railway to descend easily towards Egna and connect to the Adige Cycle Route - EV7.
Recently built is the link road connecting the villages of Castello di Fiemme with Cavalese and Piera di Tesero with Tesero.
From Mazzin towards Canazei, the cycle track is included in the programmes to be developed and defined in the near future. At present, numerous minor roads make it possible to travel easily along the valley floor as far as the village of Canazei.
In the winter season, the route is partly used as a cross-country skiing track and important events such as the prestigious Marcialonga take place here.
Along the route there are numerous naturalistic and cultural attractions, and it is possible to find refreshments and assistance at the various Bicigrill, pedalling immersed in a panorama crowned by glimpses of the Latemar and Catinaccio ridges, the 'crode' of the Sella, Pordoi and Monzoni groups.
