Within the framework of the actions envisaged by Provincial Law No. 10 of 10 July 2017, "Reduction of waste, recovery and distribution of food and non-food surpluses and pharmaceutical products and amendments to related provincial laws", the Table for the coordination of waste reduction and surplus distribution policies promotes concrete initiatives to incentivise the reuse of resources and support people in situations of fragility.
Among the initiatives developed in the framework of the work of the Table, a provincial map of Food Distribution Points was created, which collects and makes visible the structures active in the territory in the free distribution of foodstuffs. It is an accessible and useful tool, designed to facilitate the meeting between those in need of concrete support and the realities that offer this type of service.
The food distribution points indicated are organisations pursuing solidarity aims which, thanks to the daily contribution of voluntary organisations such as Trentino Solidale OdV and the Banco Alimentare del Trentino Alto Adige, provide them with recovered foodstuffs free of charge which, although still suitable for consumption, can no longer be marketed. There may be various reasons for this: damaged packaging, close expiry dates, end of stock or other factors linked to the production or distribution chain.
The activity of the Points contributes significantly to two central objectives of the law: supporting people and families in economic difficulty and reducing food waste, in a logic of circular economy and territorial solidarity.
Each Food Distribution Point operates according to its own timetable and organisational methods. For this reason, it is important to enquire directly at the nearest facility to find out its opening days and hours, access and food collection methods.
The provincial map is a simple and accessible tool, updated periodically, which allows you to view the Points of Activity throughout the territory. You can select your municipality or consult the map directly to find the nearest point.
