The Library of the Autonomous Province of Trento, part of the Cultural Activities and Production Service, is managed by theOffice for the Trentino Library System and is located in Trento in Via Romagnosi, 7 at the Centro Europa. A specialist library belonging to the Sistema Bibliotecario Trentino, alongside materials that can be consulted for research and study purposes, it offers numerous open-shelf resources available for loan.
The main fund"Culture" deals with the disciplines of library culture such as librarianship , bibliology and bibliography, a fundamental mission of the structure since its foundation as "Professional Library" with documentation and updating functions for library operators and support to the activities of the competent Office. In accordance with the subject matter and objectives of the Service of which the Library is a part, as well as of the competent Department, this section is enriched with a wide selection of resources related to the activities, policies, products and promotion of culture, also with a focus on the local dimension.
An ideal extension of this fund is the 'Audiovisuals' section, originally acquired by the Format provincial centre, which alongside a library heritage dedicated to contemporary visual arts such as cinema, photography, video, and disciplines such as journalism and communication, offers several thousand films on DVD, a heritage that is constantly updated but in part obtained by transferring VHS videotapes and thus also containing works from the past that are now difficult to find. The DVDs are not open-shelf selectable, but can be borrowed on request.
The acquisition of the holdings of other subjects, such as the Provincial Council Library, the Millevoci Centre or the Provincial Tourism Observatory, is the basis for other smaller sections, open for loan, dedicated to Global Citizenship (interculturality), Europe (birth and development of the European Union), Council (legal-administrative fund), Equal Opportunities, Tourism.
The Library also manages conservation funds, among which the Children's and Adolescents' Literature Fund is relevant, created to avoid the dispersion of quality materials documenting the history of this production. These materials are not available for loan but only for consultation, following evaluation by the reference service staff.
All the resources owned by the Library are present in the Trentino Bibliographic Catalogue and can be independently searched by the user in the interface First. The Library also adheres to the Media Library On Line(MLOL) digital library platform, whose services are therefore available to its users, subject to registration.
Through the interlibrary loan service it is possible to request materials available for loan owned by the libraries of the System outside the territory of the Municipality of Trento.
Free Internet connectivity is available in the spaces of the Provincial Library through the Trentino WiFi network, also on some PC stations that can be used by users.
National and local newspapers are available for consultation, as well as periodicals relating to the main disciplines covered by the heritage sections.
