Description
The Library of the Autonomous Province of Trento, which forms part of the Cultural Activities and Production Service, is managedby the Office for the Trentino Library System and is located in Trento at Via Romagnosi, 7, within the Centro Europa. As a specialist library within the Trentino Library System, alongside materials available for consultation for research and study purposes, it offers numerous resources on open shelves which are available for loan.
The main‘Culture’ collection covers disciplines related to book culture, such as library science, bibliology and bibliography. This has been the library’s fundamental mission since its foundation as a ‘Professional Library’, with the role of providing documentation and training for library staff and supporting the activities of the relevant Office. In line with the remit and objectives of the Service of which the Library forms part, as well as those of the relevant Department, this section is enriched with a wide selection of resources relating tothe activities,policies,products andpromotion of culture, with a particular focus on the local context.
An ideal extension of this collection is the“Audiovisuals”section, originally acquired from the provincial centre Format, which, alongside a collection of books dedicated to contemporary visual arts such as cinema, photography, video, as well as disciplines such as journalism and communication, offers several thousand films on DVD. This collection is constantly updated, though part of it has been obtained by digitising VHS tapes and therefore also contains works from the past that are now difficult to find. The DVDs cannot be selected from open shelves but are available for loan on request.
All the resources held by the Library are listed in the Trentino Bibliographic Catalogue and can be searched independently by the user via the Primointerface. The Library is also a member of the Media Library On Line (MLOL) digital library platform, whose services are therefore available to its users upon registration.
Through the inter-library loan service, it is possible to request materials held by libraries within the System outside the municipality of Trento that are available for loan.
Free internet access is available within the Provincial Library via the Trentino WiFi network, including on some PC workstations available for public use.
National and local newspapers are available for consultation, as well as journals relating to the main disciplines covered by the library’s collections.
