The aim of the National Action Plan for the Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products is to guide, guarantee and monitor a process of change in plant protection product use practices towards forms characterised by greater environmental and health compatibility and sustainability.

The Plan provides for improved solutions to reduce the impact of plant protection products also in non-agricultural areas frequented by the population.
In line with the contents of Directive 2009/128/EC and Legislative Decree No 150/2012, it is proposed to achieve the following general objectives associated with the use of plant protection products
- to reduce the risks and impacts of plant protection products on human health, the environment and biodiversity
- to promote the application of integrated pest management, organic farming and other alternative approaches
- protecting users of PPPs and the general public; and
- protecting consumers;
- preserving the aquatic environment and drinking water;
- conserve biodiversity and protect ecosystems.
To achieve these objectives, the following seven actions are included in the Plan:
