Description
Every year Hays, in collaboration with Oxford Economics, publishes a report called the Hays global skills index. The latest 2016 report, entitled The global skills landscape - a complex puzzle, examined the labour markets of 33 economies (including Italy) to identify the main trends in the world of skilled labour. What emerges from this analysis is that for the fifth consecutive year, the gap between demand and supply of skills in the global labour market has grown. As a result, there is a real 'economic paradox': the labour markets of many countries (including Italy) are grappling with a high and growing unemployment rate, especially among young people coming out of school and university systems, but at the same time they suffer from a chronic lack of specialised professional figures with skills suited to the needs expressed by current socio-economic and organisational contexts. In this paper, Prof. Michele Gazzola takes up and deepens the theme dealt with in the seminar The intangible resources for the future of Trentino. The case of language skills, with regard to the economic value of such skills.
