The palace on the mountain of Scanuppia

Edited by Umberto Raffaelli. Autonomous Province of Trento. Soprintendenza per i beni architettonici, 2008.

Description

On the Scanuppia mountain, above Besenello, stands Malga Palazzo, an interesting example of fortified mountain architecture. Its origins date back to the second half of the 16th century. Originally, its function was to control and defend the territory, later it was used for hunting and sheep-farming activities until, in more recent times, it was used as the Trapp family's summer holiday home.
In 1992, the Autonomous Province of Trento purchased the building and the large surrounding area, recognising its high architectural value. The Palazzo underwent a skilful and accurate restoration that returned it to its historic form.
The publication provides important insights into the Palazzo: the restoration work, the hunting use, the Nature Reserve and the history of the property.
