Description
This Notebook of the Superintendence for Historical and Artistic Heritage is the culmination of a delicate phase of census and protection of the important Capuchin artistic heritage, which began in 1979. It is the complete catalogue of paintings dating from the 16th to the 19th century and conserved in the six friaries of the Province of Santa Croce: Trento, Rovereto, Arco, Ala, Condino and Terzolas. In total there are 245 works, each one supported by a precise identification card, which is part of the complex Trentino history of this Franciscan rib. Also from an artistic point of view, much information has come out of the restoration work and not a few names, not only from Trentino, of the protagonist painters: Paolo Farinati, Jacopo Palma il Giovane, Antonio Balestra, Fra Semplice da Verona to name but a few. Introducing the history of the Capuchin friars who arrived in Trento in 1545 and the vicissitudes of their convents is the essay by Father Lino Mocatti, head of the same monastic province and passionate director of the Capuchin Provincial Library.
