Description
Bruno Kessler, president of the Autonomous Province of Trento for thirteen years (1960-73), was a protagonist of a new provincial and political structure. He was an advocate of the new Statute of Autonomy (20 January 1972), a proponent of provincial planning through the Provincial Urban Plan, the founder of the Trentino Institute of Culture, he conceived and wanted to create a University in Trento (a higher institute of social science) to crown the old university dream of Trentino, starting with the faculty of Sociology (1962), which was made state-run in 1982. In 1976 he was elected to the Italian parliament, re-elected in 1979, holding office until 1983. In 1977 he became a member of the Commission of Twelve, which drew up the implementing regulations for the regional statute of autonomy. In '89 he was awarded the first prize of 'The Trentino of the Year'. He died two years later, in 1991 in Trento.
This text, published on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Trentino Institute of Culture, collects an extensive anthology of his 'parliamentary' speeches, i.e. given in institutional assemblies, Provincial, Regional and Chamber meetings in Rome.
