Description
Pia Laviosi Zambotti, originally from Fondo, made an indelible mark on prehistoric and protohistoric research in Europe between the 1930s and 1960s. She was a singular figure of a scholar who knew how to astonish and at the same time challenge an academic environment poised between tradition and innovation, then characterised by a predominantly male presence. She did this with determination and elegance in a troubled period.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of her death, which took place in Milan in November 1965, the 'Pia Laviosi Zambotti' Library of the Archaeological Assets Office, which preserves the books that belonged to her, normally aimed at an adult public, opens up to an unusual public that is certainly full of interesting positive meanings: children, young people, and teachers from the Fondo compulsory school. The project shared with the school highlights a life spent in search of the origins of past civilisations but with a confident look to the future. This woman, an archaeologist, whose memory has not fallen into oblivion, now lives again in the intense portrait that the children and young people, guided by their teachers, composed, giving her back to the community.
