Description
In the list of no less than 57 languages into which the great Italian writer Mario Rigoni Stern has been translated, Cimbrian was missing, a language that was certainly more akin to him having been born in Asiago, Cimbrian territory. This translation, therefore, by the very competent collaborator of the Cimbrian Cultural Institute of Luserna, Andrea Nicolussi Golo, worthily contributes to the valorisation and preservation of the linguistic minority, while emphasising its literary potential (the Einaudi publishing house has ceded the rights free of charge). The novel - which narrates the vicissitudes of Tönle, a shepherd who is also a smuggler, a travelling salesman and a soldier between the years 1866 and 1917 - has a preface by Giuseppe Mendicino, Stern's biographer, and a detailed introduction by Ermenegildo Bidese of the University of Trento.
